Ute Mountain's convention center was packed with people this past Saturday for the last of three World Series of Blackjack 2006 satellite tournaments. Only one lucky player won a seat at the World Series of Blackjack, which will be held in Las Vegas.
“It’s a war," said one participant Joe Pane, a Las Vegas resident who was one of 91 blackjack pros competing in the event. At the end of the day, the winner of the blackjack tournament was Charles Montoya of Farmington, N.M., who ended the competition with a $3,150 prize and, best of all, a seat in the World Series of Blackjack.
GSN, the Network for Games, filmed the entire blackjack event, and will also be filming the World Series of Blackjack in the final week of February and first week of March at the Las Vegas Hilton. According to GSN’s Vice President of Programming Kevin Belinkoff, “GSN’s goal is to be the home of blackjack."
